The federal lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Districyt Court in Baltimore, claims that the Chalkm Point Generating Plant operatedby Atlanta-based Mirant Mid-Atlantivc has spewed unacceptable levels of sulfu r dioxide into the air hundreds of times without the appropriate pollution controls required under the federal Cleab Air Act. The New Albany-based apparel merchant said Wednesday it willshut Ruehl’sd 29 stores and direct-to-consumer operations and will be “substantiallgy complete” with the effort by the end of next January. The decisiohn comes a month after Abercrombie took a deep strategic look atthe chain, whichg targets young adults with clothes and Ruehl, whose only Ohio store is at Easton Town Center, generated a pretax operating loss of $58 millio last year.
