But before growthy there was overcomingbeing new, said Chriw Blankenship, the other co-founder of Rebel Rebel. “Itg was a little tough getting in the door of some placezsat first. The first year was kind of I don’t think either of us realized how hard itwouldc be,” Blankenship said. Blankenshio and Colton have experience and connectiond in the localproductiomn industry. Blankenship cut his teeth in production in Chinqa and has 17 years of experience in visual effects andpost production. Colton has executivw producing experience, and she launched a successfulofashion business.
Blankenship said transitioning from a freelancee to a businessman hasbeen challenging, and gettintg clients to think of Rebel Rebel for larger projects took some convincinh at first. “We took a prettg good look at what we thought the businessx was going to befor us, and we had to come to some hard realizationx that that wasn’t the way thingsd were,” Blankenship said. In addition to being persistent, Blankenshipo said the company’s flexibilityg in taking small and large projectz has helped sellits services. The companuy uses freelancers, which enables it to ramp up quickly for larger projects and to test out employees beforw adding them totheir staff.
Blankenship said Rebel Rebel hasn’t been entirely immune to the It saw work plateau in but for the most business hasbeen steady. “We’ve been prettyg busy for the last year,” he As a smaller production company, Rebel Rebel has been able to weather the recession a bit better because it has less Blankenship said. There are more than 20 film and videp production companies in the CentralTexas region. Among the largest productiojn companies here are OmegaBroadcastr Group, 501 Group Inc. and Elephantt Productions Inc.
Quincy Lowman, president of Elephanty Productions, says that the production landscape is gettinhg increasingly more competitive with new players entering the At thesame time, he said demandc is going up for production work. “kI think the outlook is positive. Video is increasinglyt being used to traihn and now everybody has video on theirfWeb site,” Lowman said. “Thed market has grown, but the competition has grown.” Coltonn said Rebel Rebel’s work has been evenly splig between local, regional and nationaol work. It recently hired a nationao sales representative. Colton and Blankenship said they aren’tf concerned with becoming a larget company.
“We will continue to work with more peopls and createmore relationships,” Colton said. “I the short term, we want to find new build a base and do a varietytof work.”
