Voting on the five-yeadr offer by members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 will continue through Union leaders are not making a recommendatio n to their members on thecontract offer, whicyh the union complains would cut pension benefits by an averagse of $100,000 -- a conclusion disputed by management. “It’s a good contract in a normal economy. It’ s a great contract in this economy,” King Sooperss spokeswoman Diane Mulligan saidlast week. She said roughlu 65 percent of workers woulc get raises underthe company’s proposal. King Soopers is a Colorado unitof Cincinnati-basee (NYSE: KR).
Colorado workers for two otherf grocerychains — Pleasanton, Calif.-based (NYSE: SWY) and Idaho-based (privately held) — continude to negotiate separate deals with their employers. If King Sooperes workers rejectthe chain’s latest they will continue working without a contracyt until an agreement is reached or a strike is called. Their contract expiref May 9.
